First owner: Guy Flandre, Paris (Toyen’s and André Breton’s close friend). Toyen presented this painting to her closest friend in Paris Mr. Guy Flandre as a memory of their joint vacation in the Channel Islands. Provenance was consulted with Toyen’s and Breton’s close friend living in Paris. The painting is a good example of handling a dream experience. It is characterized for its multivalued background and emphasis on the fish motif that crosscuts entire Toyen’s production from her early canteens to war surrealistic paintings.
