Painter A.V.Hanzen was a grandson and a student of marine painter I.K.Ajvazovsky. After studies he left for Kavkaz and to Feodosie. Hanzen received the order of the Academy of Fine Arts in Petrograd. He was court painter of Tsar Nikolaj II, whom he accompanied on yacht journeys across the Northern and Baltic seas. His paintings have been displayed in Tsarist palace Gatčina, Alexander palace etc. After 1919, during the Revolution, Hanzen left Russia for Yugoslavia.
