In the back there is an original label: prof. Jan Bauch, born 1898, national artist. Provenance: important collection in Vienna Jan Bauch- a Czech painter, designer and sculptor, was a member of ‘Umělecká beseda’ during the period of 1923-26, and since 1926 a member of SVU Mánes. In 1977 he was proclaimed a national artist. Bauch’s instinctive and sensual painterly style had appeared already early in his career, and an expressionist reflex is intrinsic to his creation. Jan Bauch had been painting Prague vigorously since 1940, and had developed from quick sketches exploring architectonic shapes and structure, to mature and powerful visions of his hometown.
