Provenance:
- The painting was bought by the famous gallerist Louis Carré right from Kupka in
Puteaux in Paris
- Private collection
It is the mature work of the founder of the world abstract painting and the most
significant Czech modern painter of 20th century. The painting belongs to the set
“Vertical and diagonal plans”. Composition of the painting has somewhat like the
inner frame which makes us feel like seeing two paintings.

This painting belongs to series of ten paintings (oil-paintings) called “Series
C“, which was Kupka painted in intervals (Beaugency residence) between years 1935
– 1946. In creation of these paintings, Frantisek Kupka was inspirated by architecture.
Early works in this series are contains copmlex shape and are demarcating by vivid
colors. The most of others oil-paintings from this notable series are in possession
of the world most important goverment galleries or endowment funds.
Appended the expertize (authentication) Pierre Brullé, best expert, international
recognized, and author of monography of Frantisek Kupka.
Painting “Élévation IV., C II series“ was many times exhibited and publicated and
belongs to essential works of Kupka’s abstract painting or more precisely the world
modern painting.

Gallery and world import work of "father" abstract painting (with Malevic, Kandinsky
and Delaunay) and most important czech modern painter of 20th Century.
Painting was very valued by first owner, fabricant Jindrich Waldes,
which he has bought right from Frantisek Kupka in Paris, and which was hanged in
manufacturer´s willa in the street named Americka in Prague until 1938, when the
family took this painting to the USA.
No painting of this art value was ever auctioned off the Czech marked.
Appended the expertize (authentication) Pierre Brullé, best expert,
international recognized, and author of monography of Frantisek Kupka.
Appended also confirming about provenance by son George Waldes.
Provenance:
1/ in 30ties the painting bought manufacturer Jindrich Waldes in Paris right from
F. Kupka
2/ until 1938 was in willa in the street named Americka in Prague
3/ in 1938 was exported to USA by Waldes family
4/ Milos Waldes has earned this painting by heritage of his father Jindrich Waldes
5/ important germany-czech collection (after death of Milos Waldes)
